Here's another question. If someone were getting started in turning (it's me) what would be on your list of turning tools to buy first? (Besides a lathe) I mean cutting tools.

Thanks again, Terry

Small and maybe a medium bowl gouge. Oneway Mastercut double ended.

Small and medium shallow gouges.

1" skew.

Parting tool.

Straight and curved scraper.

And, although you didn't ask, a chuck. 3 brands are best - Oneway, Vicmarc, Axminster. Several jaw sets.

Terry,

I agree with Aarons suggestions on turning tools. Several brands are good, including HenryTaylor, Oneway, Thompson, Sorby and many others. Robust has a broad range, have had no firsthand experience with Robust, but a stellar US company right here in Wisconsin.

I have several Teknatool chucks, supernova2 type, and several jaws. While not top tier, they perform well. I'd stay away from the lightweight chucks and brands.

If I had the longevity and funds, I'd purchase a Robust lathe. Nothing wrong with the Scout, upgrade to 1.5 hp motor.

I have a Jet, 16 X 42 with electronic variable speed. Does all I ask of it, well almost all.
