Making Wig Stands

As the Coulee Region turning club is engaged in the community engagement project of making Wig Stands for our Cancer Center partners, I've included some production documents here. These documents are also located within the Documents menu. Please note: the Centers are always in need of those lovely stands that ya'll make.

Hello all club members,

At the 2/21/26 club meeting, 16 wig new stands were brought forth by their makers. The total stands submitted from our club since December 2021 is 274 by our generous members. Greg Zeller brought the most stands to today's meeting.

As you may be aware, our club has an informal partnership with a local cancer center at Emplify Health, headquartered in LaCrosse, WI to make wig stands for patients.

Just think, if only 20 members produced 12 stands per year, or 1 per month, we could contribute 240 stands per year. Sound like a challenge?? I'll accept that challenge as I am able.

An FYI, WIT (Women In Turning) a program of the AAW, tracks wig stands made by club affiliates as many clubs also partner with local cancer centers.

From the latest WIT Newsletter, November 2025, Wig Stand Update (November 9, 2025) 3,578! To note, our club started making wig stands prior to when WIT started collecting data. WIT Home Page

Instructional information for making stands can be found from our club's Documents link from the Home page or click on the direct links from the original message from me on this forum on Making Wig Stands. Note, the instruction sets are simply guidelines-your creativity is welcomed.

Please consider signing your wig stand on the bottom and indicate that your stand is donated by the Coulee Region Woodturners and yourself listed as the maker. This also helps to spread the word of the club's existence to the wider coulee region community.

Thank you,

Hello Fellow Woodturners

I dropped off the wig stands from our last meeting today. They had 4 left in inventory since the November 2025 drop off. We know they are distributed fairly quickly to patients, so in constant need.

My contact at WIT informed me, 41 clubs are sending wig stands data. I suspect there are many more wig stands made that are not in the data set. The next WIT newsletter will be coming out soon if interested. WIT Home Page

Once again, a huge shout out to those Coulee Region Woodturner stand makers. Please keep em coming folks.
